Julian Hayes is a General and Colorectal Surgeon with extensive experience in laparoscopic colorectal surgery and the management of complex colorectal conditions. Before joining Auckland City Hospital as a Colorectal and General Surgeon in 2007, he spent three years as a Consultant and Senior Lecturer in the University Department of Surgery at Dunedin Hospital.

Julian completed two years of advanced colorectal training in Adelaide and Brisbane, working alongside internationally recognised leaders in laparoscopic colorectal surgery. His research interests have included the development of “fast-track” recovery pathways for patients undergoing laparoscopic colorectal procedures, with a focus on improving recovery and patient outcomes.

In addition to his clinical work, Julian has contributed to surgical education and has taught on a number of laparoscopic colorectal surgery courses throughout New Zealand. While laparoscopic colorectal surgery is a major focus of his practice, he also performs a wide range of colorectal and general surgical procedures.
