Q&A with Maggie
What do you enjoy most about your work?
Making a difference in the lives of people living with difficult day-to-day symptoms, and helping young people with inflammatory bowel disease regain their quality of life and independence.
What is most important to you when caring for patients?
I believe in personalised care and empowering patients to be involved in decision-making. It’s important to me that patients feel safe, comfortable, and confident in the care they receive.
How do you help patients feel comfortable during a procedure?
I reassure patients that they will be treated with respect and looked after throughout the process. I make sure they have time to ask questions and discuss any concerns in a calm and considerate way, without feeling rushed.
What areas of care are you particularly focused on?
My focus is on delivering the best possible care for the individual sitting in front of me, recognising that every patient and situation is different.
What do you want patients to know about endoscopy procedures?
It’s completely natural to feel nervous, especially if it’s your first procedure. Endoscopy procedures are very safe, and patients are cared for by a highly trained team of specialists and nurses throughout the process.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
When I’m not at work, my nine-year-old keeps us busy with a wide range of activities – from mountain biking to watersports.
